About
Ji Sunkyung explores the point where sensory clues meet structural order, examining how invisible sensations take shape as form and space. Subtle shifts in everyday life, the movement of light and shadow, the surfaces of objects, and the afterimages of past movement become important points of departure in her work. Rather than directly representing objects, she follows subtle traces, directions of movement, and invisible orders.
These clues are rearranged through color, material, and geometric structure into layers of painting, sculpture, and installation. As ecological clues and structural order overlap, different elements form a kind of poetic compression. Ji approaches this process through what she calls “Residual Abstraction,” focusing not on explaining what has disappeared, but on how the residue left after disappearance becomes perceptible again within form and space.
The artist adjusts the intervals and directions between works by following the circulation of a site, the flow of space, and invisible cognitive lines. Through this process, the works expand into a spatial scene within the exhibition space. Within it, individual works enter into relation through their positions and distances, while scenes are connected by the viewer’s movement into a single rhythm.
지선경은 감각의 단서와 구조적 질서가 만나는 지점에서 보이지 않는 감각이 어떻게 형식과 공간으로 자리 잡는지를 탐구한다. 일상의 미세한 변화, 빛과 그림자의 이동, 사물의 표면과 지나간 움직임의 잔상은 작업을 이끄는 중요한 단서가 되며, 대상을 직접 재현하기보다 미세한 흔적과 운동의 방향, 보이지 않는 질서를 따라간다.
이러한 단서들은 색, 물질, 기하학적 구조를 거치며 회화와 조각, 설치로 재배열된다. 생태적 단서와 구조적 질서가 포개지는 과정에서 서로 다른 요소들은 시적 압축을 이룬다. 지선경은 이를 ‘잔여적 추상’의 방식으로 다루며, 사라진 것을 설명하기보다 사라진 이후의 잔여가 형식과 공간 안에서 다시 감지되는 방식을 살핀다.
장소의 동선과 공간의 흐름, 보이지 않는 인지적 선을 따라 작품들 사이의 간격과 방향을 조율한다. 이를 통해 작품들은 전시 공간 안에서 하나의 공간적 장면으로 확장된다. 그 안에서 개별 작품들은 서로의 위치와 거리 속에서 관계를 맺고, 장면들은 관객의 이동에 따라 하나의 리듬으로 이어진다.
