About
Sunkyung Ji explores 'Residual Abstraction', which emerges at the intersection of geometric order and bodily intuition. Using painterly media alongside structural materials and organic fragments, she condenses fleeting sensations and the density of time into matter, giving form to sensory states before they are fixed into signification. Through variations in layering and transparency, she investigates the relationship between material and light, constructing asynchronous temporal strata within suspended scenes. This formal language extends beyond individual works and operates through relations, while her installations calibrate rhythm and movement within space to form a spatial scene.
